New Pub and Grill???????

Take a look at the agenda for Plan Commission tonight. What we've all been waiting for a new business and a new place to eat. But wait................

Looks like the neighbors around the proposed eatery (in the same building as the new gym) have started a petition against the proposed restaurant. Everyone wants their cake and to eat it too.

People complain about the lack of business and places to eat yet here we go again with the not in my back yard bullshit.

Here's the deal the deal people. WE NEED BUSINESS. I have already called my alder and voiced my support. I suggest you do the same.

I actually went and drove around that area to see how close they were to residential homes.

It is in a 'stripmall.' I would have been more concerned about the gym, which I think is a awsome asset to Evansville, because its open 24/7? Is it not.

I think these people they can petition all they like , good luck.

I will not deny them their right to do this been there, done that.

I can almost guarantee it will go through unless there are some serious issues with the over all plan, not because of it being a pub and grill.

The only reason the bar did not go in down the road from us is because she decided not to.

The people who are signing the petition can expect to hear' By law if there is a liquor license to be had, we have to give it if they meet all other requirements.'

If you are trying to say safety is a issue go to the public safety committee not the common council.

Oh the things I have learned.

But seriously it would be nice. It would also be nice if the food was decent.

This is their right to protest this. But it will be a uphill battle .

But I think this is the same area where they kept the a new bowling alley and family center from going in to their neighborhood as well.

I really don't have to tell my alders anything, they vote yes for everything. Except for part of the smart growth plan, because it made their street commercial, and for the bar in their backyard. See how they work.?

All people do is bitch in this town.

I hope that bar has a stripper pole, hot chick bartenders, tons of drink specials & more stripper poles!

But serisouly folks...we need stripper poles.

The nice thing about this strip mall is that I can pick up a pussy...cat at Big Sweeties, go get totally huge at the gym, buy a house from the realtor and now get liquored up at the bar. After I get my ass kicked at the bar because some guy is talking to my pussy...cat and I thought I was all huge and awesome because of my lifting and my big new house I can then go to the rehab place to get put back together all nice and shit.

Hahahahaha- stripper poles.

Ok that wasn't chasin - but that would have been funny.

Ya get the feelin thats all ' notchasinatall' can get is a pussy from Big Sweeties? He kind of sounds deprived. And perverted.

By the way for these people opposing this, the notice for this meeting was not properly posted as by law, you might want to check that out.

I didn't drive by, but it does seem to be pretty close to houses from my recollection. Obviously one chasin is a fraud, but I assume the other is the real deal. I recall a different tune when it was over in chasin's neighborhood. I drove by the gym a few weeks ago and thought that strip mall seems too close to residential property. Too bad the Eager building sits empty. I don't think anyone would have a gripe with that. Especially the tax payers who subsidized that rebuild of the now empty building. Oh well, hopefully the big boys default on paying their TIF taxes on their very pretty, very empty building before the TIFS are paid in full.

Oops, meant to say hopefully they don't default on paying their TIF due to the empty building.

Actually the Eager building would be a excellent place for this 'pub'. I actually would rather see a fine dining establishment in there. Something will some class to add to the history. If I was not looking at paying for my kids college next year I would do it.

Those houses are no closer to the strip mall than I am to citgo or the bar WOULD have been to my backyard. I feel for them. I also realize there are facing a up hill battle.

But if citgo is good enough for my front yard, why should this pub not go in ? They can ask for certain conditions to be put on it, within in reason. Examples no delivery before or after certain hrs. Keep trash picked up, would ever apply s to the neighborhood.

I can bet one of the conditions they might ask for is no 'poles'.

Here is a interesting question, being Jeff is pro new business. WHY when there were developers who wanted to put in a convenience/gas station out in your neighbor hood, why did it not happen? It was voted down.

Why because your neighbors maybe even you, had a freakin fit about one going in their nice ,new neighborhood.

SO it did not happen.

So much for new business depending on where you live.

Chasin'- When did that (gas-station voted down in Jeff's neighborhood) occur?

Are you sure that was Jeff's neighborhood? Because I know where Jeff's neighborhood is and there is no where within 4 blocks in any direction that has a lot zoned for commercial.

Chasin' listen, I get it. You have opinions and sometimes people agree with them and other times they don't. But c'mon you can not possibly be right all of the time. And now you are basically trying to pick a little fight with Jeff when you just did this exact same thing. Plainly you think the restaurant is good over on the east side, but you did not want a bar in your neighborhood (even though there already is one less than a stone's throw away from your house - Romano's).

So what gives?

OK for the record most people think underage drinking is bad. Check. And there are certainly tons of negative things associated with drinking in general. But we cannot possibly stop establishments from coming to this community and doing something that is well within their legal rights, namely start a bar and/or restaurant.

Your house is surronded by commercially zoned lots. Those lots have been zoned that way for years. Hell Franklin Park used to be a pizzaria. Frankly I think people do not put in enough leg work when they buy a home. It certainly isn't my job to fix that for them. SO why should my tax dollars (through the city) fix that for them?

They wanted to put one out on Porter road????? By the new daycare out there. At least it was new when they first discussed it. The neighbors did have a fit. So it did not happen.

As far as being zoned commercial that is very easily changed. All is takes is a vote from city officials. Where PART of the citgo lot sits had to be rezoned from residential to commercial. So that part is not a big issue. Basically is they wanted to put a Mcdonalds next to your house , they can. Just takes a VOTE..

That's right. The proposal was to put a small strip mall at the corner of 6th and Porter.

I was about the only one in favor. I wanted a place to go for milk and smokes without a 10 minute drive.

It's okay. Some things happen. Some things don't.

Oh, and by the way, the Township residents do have a say in development near them. It has to be weighed and taken into consideration in any decision. The City cannot just say FU to the townships. This isn't Madison, for cryin' out loud.

You should quit smoking anyway Grumps. I remember this also. It would not however been a gas station I can't remember why but they couldn't do it. I too was in favor I know downtown is not that far but it would be a nice walk to pick up BEER or the Sunday paper.
