Local Restaurant Review

With the talk of the new Italian Restaurant coming into town I thought it would be fun to rank our current ones. Since everyone’s taste’s are different I had a few friends over and we averaged out the scores.

Here’s how it broke down…………

We rated all of the restaurants’ based on the following.

Food/Menu: 3/8 of the total score. If food sucks you won’t come back.

Service: ¼ of the total score. Important? Yes. Who want’s to sit down and wait an hour before your server even asks you what you’d like to drink?

Atmosphere: ¼ of the total score. Also a reason why we all go out to eat. No one wants to sit and eat in filth.

Clientele: 1/8 of the total score. Do you like to hang out there? Can you take your Kids, your Wife, your Mom?

Without further ado…the Results:

1. Country Club – 47.12%
2. Alberricis – 46.24%
3. Night Owl – 42.16%
4. China Wok – 41.2%
5. Romanos – 40.8%
6. Green Forest II – 40.56%
7. Pete’s Inn – 36.8%
8. Village Square – 34.08%
9. Spinner’s – 21%

The Country Club came out on top based on atmosphere, service and clientele. Their food ran in the middle of the pack based on a couple overdone steaks and a bad fish fry.

Alberricis came in this high based on their food alone. The meats cheeses and salads are phenomenal. Hard to rate on service as it’s really not a sit down eatery but it can be done.

The Night Owl came in 2nd on food and clientele. It lost out big on atmosphere but should make a big comeback after the remodel.

China Wok your typical Chinese food period. Nothing great, nothing bad. We all thought highly of the $5.25 lunch buffet.

Romano’s got killed in the food category (the sauce is terrible from the pizza to the pasta) but ended up in fifth based on the family friendly atmosphere and their service.

Green Forest II Best breakfast in town. Good lunch specials too. Lost out on sometimes unfriendly service.

Pete’s Inn Good bar food and decent service, lost out big in the other two categories. This is a drinking crowd.

Village Square None of us were a big fan of the food or service. Unlike the Green Forest II on a busy morning you better bring some entertainment for the kids as the food is slow coming.

Spinners We took the clientele out of the equation but it ranked last in every other category. Their food is terribly inconsistent and one panel member wondered how they stay open.

How would you rank them?

I think you gave China Wok too much credit. It works in a fix, but I'd rather drive to Madison and get some decent Chinese food.

I've got two complaints about the restaurant scene (if you can call it that) in E-Town is that everything seems to be deep fried. Even the salads are fried at some places.

Don't get me started on salads. There are other types of lettuce besides Iceberg, that's all I'm saying. That's my rant.

And McDonalds as well their service is at 100%, as in I do not believe there was not a time they got my order correct.

I get much better italian deli food from the deli by my work, and its not expensive. Much easier to pick up there, and know that I am getting something decent. I am really disappointed with the pizza places in town. Don't even get me going about spinners.

Lets face it we can go either direction madison, or Janesville and have it be worth the drive to get decent food, something you don't find here in Evansville. I would like to know why the health dept has not shut down Mcdonalds, the deli, or spinners yet.

What's wrong with McD's?????
Do I need to stop getting my happy meals there? Are you simply opposed to McD's in general or are there problems with our local one?

Let's rate the gas stations -- the restaurant thing is old.

All N One is my fav. Friendly people, everything you need. Except they called the cops on us once when they thought we drove away without paying.

Citgo is second pick. Big, clean.

BP Landmark too far out of town.

Gas N Go, won't go there. Rude employees, owners

Now lets rate the grocery stores.
Piggly, too expensive, little selection, nice owners/managers, although. Stop there for a loaf of bread or gallon of milk.

Our other choice? Oh wait there is no other choice.

Come on Woodmans. We need you.

ate at green forest last night. the food was nasty. the waitress was to, she had no desire to be there. The one with the multi colored hair, red or pink? To old to be doing that to your hair.

We had breakfast at the Green Forest II yesterday too and I think had the same waitress with magenta /burgundy hair. She didn't smile once. She didn't come back and ask if our food was okay which is wasn't.
I had a cheese omelet. It was made with processed cheese nasty. Then i asked if I could have something other than hash browns she said american fries, so I said ok. she brought out this plate that looked just like huge hash browns.
I only ate two bites of it and left the rest and she didn't ask about it
I wont go back
too bad because its clean and looks nice
I like the omelets downtown at VIllage square. guess i'll go there

Now that the new Italian place is open--all I can say is WOW--great good, great service. They recently were able to help us and prepare a whole party meal for 25 people at the last minute! Can't say enough good things about them!!!

I know that I am a little behind with this whole restaurant argument, but I had to add something when i found this blog. I moved to evansville in June '06 and I was amazed by the variety of places to eat for a town of less than 5,000. I grew up in a town the size of evansville and there were no restaurants, other than bars, until I was in high school (not even a McD or Subway). The point is, if you don't like the food a certain place, don't go there anymore. In general, we are lucky to have the choices we have for a town this small.

I don't think that you gave Ramano's enough credit for their food. Their sauce is awesome considering they are real italians it may just be you like prego a little bit better. I order extra sauce on everything!! Not to mention they do have the best pizza in town!

Are you shitting me? That post is over a year old. Romano's is my favorite place to hang out for beers, cocktails etc. I also enjoy their pizza. It is far from authentic Italian however. The food there is created for the masses not for people who want true Italian fare.

Also this was judged by a group of 4 people so it wouldn't be so slanted.

Never eat a Paul Revere's Pizza 609 E Main. Worst pizza ever. Owners are the rudest people ever. Very rudr to disabled elderly people. Do yourselves a favor, don't eat there
