Local Restaurant Review
With the talk of the new Italian Restaurant coming into town I thought it would be fun to rank our current ones. Since everyone’s taste’s are different I had a few friends over and we averaged out the scores.
Here’s how it broke down…………
We rated all of the restaurants’ based on the following.
Food/Menu: 3/8 of the total score. If food sucks you won’t come back.
Service: ¼ of the total score. Important? Yes. Who want’s to sit down and wait an hour before your server even asks you what you’d like to drink?
Atmosphere: ¼ of the total score. Also a reason why we all go out to eat. No one wants to sit and eat in filth.
Clientele: 1/8 of the total score. Do you like to hang out there? Can you take your Kids, your Wife, your Mom?
Without further ado…the Results:
1. Country Club – 47.12%
2. Alberricis – 46.24%
3. Night Owl – 42.16%
4. China Wok – 41.2%
5. Romanos – 40.8%
6. Green Forest II – 40.56%
7. Pete’s Inn – 36.8%
8. Village Square – 34.08%
9. Spinner’s – 21%
The Country Club came out on top based on atmosphere, service and clientele. Their food ran in the middle of the pack based on a couple overdone steaks and a bad fish fry.
Alberricis came in this high based on their food alone. The meats cheeses and salads are phenomenal. Hard to rate on service as it’s really not a sit down eatery but it can be done.
The Night Owl came in 2nd on food and clientele. It lost out big on atmosphere but should make a big comeback after the remodel.
China Wok your typical Chinese food period. Nothing great, nothing bad. We all thought highly of the $5.25 lunch buffet.
Romano’s got killed in the food category (the sauce is terrible from the pizza to the pasta) but ended up in fifth based on the family friendly atmosphere and their service.
Green Forest II Best breakfast in town. Good lunch specials too. Lost out on sometimes unfriendly service.
Pete’s Inn Good bar food and decent service, lost out big in the other two categories. This is a drinking crowd.
Village Square None of us were a big fan of the food or service. Unlike the Green Forest II on a busy morning you better bring some entertainment for the kids as the food is slow coming.
Spinners We took the clientele out of the equation but it ranked last in every other category. Their food is terribly inconsistent and one panel member wondered how they stay open.
How would you rank them?

The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long.
He foregoes little extras and other luxuries and keeps to task.
The Ant continues builds his house and relentless collects supplies for the winter.
The Grasshopper thinks the Ant is a fool.
The Grasshopper laughs. And dances. And wastes whatever supplies it has.
The Grasshopper simply plays the summer away.
Come winter the Ant continues to work hard and is warm and well fed.
The Grasshopper made no plans and has no food or shelter.
So he dies out in the cold.

The Grasshopper simply plays the summer away.
Come winter, the shivering Grasshopper calls a press conference.
The Grasshopper demands to know why the Ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed.
While Grasshopper and others are cold and starving.
NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS, CNN and countless other media attend the press conference.
They roll miles of film and take countless pictures of the Grasshopper.
They do this in peaceful neighborhood, in front of the Ant’s warm and comfortable home.
Through the window they see the Ant eating at table filled with food.
Americans are stunned by this sharp contrast.
They listen intently to the media.
The media repeats many of the same questions over and over.
How?
How can this be?
In a country of such wealth that this poor Grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?
Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the Grasshopper.
And everybody cries when they sing, "It's Not Easy Being Green."
Jesse Jackson stages a demonstration in front of the Ant's house.
The media again amasses and films the many protesters as they sing, "We shall Overcome."
The agitated and angry group holds up many protest signs.
They are shown in the national media as heroes as they shout messages of hate toward the Ant.
Jesse has the group kneel down to pray to God for the Grasshopper's' sake.
Not wanting to be left out of the spotlight Nancy Pelosi & John Kerry join in.
They exclaim in interviews the Ant has gotten rich off the back of the Grasshopper.
They call for an immediate tax hike on the Ant so there is more money to give to the Grasshopper.
They say everyone should have to pay their Fair Share.
Now the ACLU and the EEOC join forces.
Their lobbyists wine and dine many politicians.
The outcome being new policy is drafted called The Economic Equity and Anti-Ant Act.
It is made retroactive to the beginning of the summer.
The Ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of Grasshoppers and other bugs of color.
The Ant tries to argue.
The Ant cites factual examples that it did nothing wrong.
The Ant’s argument fails against the ever growing geo-political onslaught.
The Ant exhausts most of its recourses in this failed cause.
The Ant now has nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes.
The Government confiscates the Ant’s home.
Hillary gets her old law firm to represent the Grasshopper in a defamation suit against the Ant.
The media listens to Hillary as she argues the case is not about facts.
It is about the plight of the Grasshopper and all other bugs of color.
Before the case goes to trial it is ‘tried’ over the media in words and pictures favoring the Grasshopper.
When the case is finally heard, it is heard before a panel of federal judges appointed by special advocate Bill Clinton.
The Ant loses the case.
The story ends as we see the Grasshopper now living in the Ant’s former home.
The Grasshopper’s friends and family are eagerly finishing up the last of the food the Ant worked so hard to gather.
All the while his new government house crumbles all from poor maintenance.
By now the Ant has disappeared somewhere into oblivion.
Later the Grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident and the house.
The once proud home is now abandoned and is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once peaceful
neighborhood.
The End.

New Restaraunt in Town.
The old Mexican Restaurant has a new owner and will apparently be changing it into an Italian Joint.
A few questions.
1) Can or will Evansville really support another restaurant?
2) Do we really need another "Italian" restaurant in town?
3) What kind of eatery do you think Evansville want's or need's?
I will have a breakdown of our current eating establishments in a later post.

Conspiracy or Coincidence?
Plan Commission meets on Shoreline Zoning. Lake WestField Meadows follows days later.
Hmmmmmmm.
Thought I'd throw this out there as the discussion seems to be getting a little heated.
Any Takers?

New Face on the City Council
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Barb Jacobson to the City Council as a representative of the first district. In case you don't remember Barb ran against outgoing Alder Bill Hammann 2 years ago tied him in the general election then lost in a coin flip down at city hall.
I have had the opportunity to see Barb in action as a member of both the Police Commission(which she will have to step down from as it is a citizens only board) and the Park Board. She asks tough questions and stands up for her constituents. She will be conservative with our tax dollars and bring some fresh air into the City Council as did Alder Braunschweig and Alder Jeurgens a year ago.
It will be interesting to see the new makeups of our City's boards and should be a Council meeting to attend. You know what I mean if you were there a year ago.
I would also like to thank Bill Hammann for his years of service to our community. Bill did a great job during the largest growth period of our community's history.
Congratulations Barb!
Stay tuned to Evansville,Wisconsin "My Take Your Comments". Beer, Bait, Ammo, Sports and some occasional Madonna Marketing. Just My Take Your Comments. Where the stories are anything but "Normal"

School Board Election Results Where were the voters?
What a lousy turn out. Only 591 voters total in the City of Evansville. Did Spring Break make that much of a difference? The low city turnout cost my favorite School Board candidate (Woulfe) a seat.
Here's the Breakdown of how the City voted. (note: the rest of the school district is not included in this tally)
Herbers 288
Woulfe 304
Lahti 171
Hammann 320
With these results both of my candidate's win. Instead we end up with the weakest of the 4 and one whom I believe has a conflict of interest as his wife is a teacher in the district. Thank God Melissa got in. Hopefully between she and Art we will see some common sense out of this board and keep Carvin in check. We must also not forget that The Observer will be there with recorder in hand to keep them ALL in check.
You'll get 'em next time Richard and Congratulations to Melissa.

Lake Westfield Meadows?
In case you haven't seen the video click here. A lot of water yes. A catastrophe no. When I moved to Evansville I looked at two houses near retention ponds one in the area seen on the video and another directly in front of the very large one on the North side of Porter Rd.
Great lots great houses except............ They are near retention ponds and I have young children so I moved up the hill. You can't tell me the people who bought these houses did not realize what they were buying. Pretty obvious a big hole with a drainage ditch running to it.
While I can understand the frustration the talk of the City paying to fix it is ridiculous(next you'll be complaining about taxes) . It's like building a house next to the Interstate and asking the City to pay for a sound barrier because it's too loud.
You built the house now live in it.

Police Dept. Short handed?
While reading the recent news about ex officer Fitters I discovered the Evansville Police Dept at full staffing employs 8 full time employees and 7 part time employees. That seems like a lot of cops for a city of 5000 people. For arguments sake I took the liberty of writing a work schedule. Now I can’t imagine we need any more than 2 officers on at a time but I put 3 officers on both Friday and Saturday nights. You know the routine unruly bar patrons, drinking and driving, busting up underage drinking parties, curfew violators, etc.
Here’s the Schedule:
I put this together in about 5 min. As you can see I am using only the 7 FT officers currently on staff plus the one FT officer on light duty. What does a cop on light duty do all day?
I have all of the shifts covered with a 1 full timer on a week’s vacation and another with 2 days. All of the part timers are on 24 hours a week as 32 hours is considered full time in most occupations. I realize that they will occasionally have court dates set up that can easily be accomplished by jogging a couple part timers around and cutting hours the next week. You will also not have 2 officers on vacation in the same week and the one on light duty won’t be there forever.
So this begs the question. Do we need 8 full time police officers on our force? I believe Fitters made around a $52,000.00 salary and a package of around $67,000.00 when you add in benefits.
Don’t get me wrong I enjoy living in a safe community. One where I don’t feel I have to lock my front door to go to my neighbors house, where I can leave my car running while I run in for a cup of coffee or not lock it when it’s sitting in my driveway in the middle of the day.
I’m just wondering if we really need 15 officers on our Police Dept. Payroll.
If anyone has more insight on the way their schedule is set up please post.
What do you think?

Kids ( I did ) do stupid things
I was going through some old boxes last night trying to see what I could get rid of when I came across some old elementary school pictures. This got me thinking of some of the stupid things I did as a kid and one story in particular had me laughing quite hard at myself although I didn'tfind it so funny at the time.
I was around eight years old and found a piece of string I would say 6 – 8 inches long. After pulling on it, tying it around a couple things and twirling it into a little ball with my fingers I for whatever reason stuck it in my mouth. Not too long after I swallowed it. Being eight I thought nothing of it.
Until two days later…………
I’m sitting on the toilet taking a dump. No big deal right? I do it every everyday.
Everything came out great except…………..
I wipe and wipe and there’s still something there. I try to take a look to no avail so I skootch over to the mirror and there it is THE STRING dangling maybe 3 inches out of my ass. I’m completely mortified. What do I do?
Here’s what came to my eight year old mind.
1.Holler for my Mom? That one was short lived. How in the hell do I explain this?
2.Wipe some more? No way, my ass is already sore from the first fifteen times I tried.
3. Do nothing and wait until next time? This one actually sounded good for awhile. I
could not however figure out what to do with this string. There was No Way I
was touching it, it had poop on it. So I thought if I swung my ass back and forth
hard enough it would stick to my ass cheek and I wouldn’t even know it’s there.
This actually worked! I skootched over to the mirror again and sure enough it’s
stuck to my right ass cheek. I even pulled up my Batman underoo’s but it felt
wet, dirty & terrible. So onto plan number 4.
4. Pull it out? I’m pretty sure I turned white as a ghost when I came to the conclusion
this was the only way. I again head over to the mirror to check out the situation
knowing exactly what I had to do. I reached for some toilet paper, no way I was
touching the poop string with my bare hands. I tried to grab the string, cringed and missed. Thing’s in the mirror are backwards, I was not thinking of this in my
most desperate moment of my eight short year’s of life. One more time I
thought and I’m going to have to go back to dreaded option #1. So again I cringe
this time I get the string but wait. Do I pull it out slowly or give it a good yank? I
decide slowly is better and off I go. In what seemed like hours the string was out.
The Moral of this story? Don’t stick things in your mouth you don’t want to shit out later.

The Observer doesn't have this one yet!

This should really come as no surprise as the ATF does not normally get involved unless the Fire Marshall calls them in.
Anyone have any theory's? I'd love to hear them. I'll post mine tomorrow.

Have you all had the opportunity to see your gas bill? I about fell over when I opened mine to the tune of $143.60. Now mind you I turn the thermostat down to 60 degrees from 7am-4pm 68 degrees from 4pm-9pm and 64 degrees from 9pm-7am. I can't even fathom how high the bill bill would have been at a constant 68 degrees.

Fitters was making some “Home Brew” (apparently it something like a mix of Apple Cider and Everclear ) and distributing it to some of our local taverns. After a year of accusations; providing alcohol to minors (Was it his “Home Brew”?) & pressuring a 20 year old girl to have sex.
He served a 60 day unpaid suspension for the above accusations. He is currently being investigated by the state Department of Revenue's Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement division. See the connection?
While I personally had no problems with the ex Sergeant it was high time that a man who thought he was above the law is no longer able to “Protect and Serve” the people of Evansville.
Let’s hope the Police Commission really does it’s homework before hiring Fitters replacement. It’s been a rough last year for the Police Department. Officer Jones and the $25,000.00 judgment. Officer Booth’s resignation? (That still pisses me off he was the best cop we had in this city.) and now this.
If this kind of behavior continues the next time the Police Commission gets together to hire someone it may be a new Police Chief.

Where are they Now?
Just Wondering what has happened to a few of the more prominent bloggers from our area.
EvilleAlderFred? Last post Dec 4th '06
CUUE? Last post Mar 17th '06
Evansville Skate Club? First and last post Nov 2nd '06
Now to be honest with you I could give a rat's ass about any of these people or what they stand for. They did however provide a mild form of entertainment.
Who can forget Fred's holier than thou attitude. If you didn't agree with him you were not allowed to post.
Or CUUE's ridiculous Bring them Home Now stance. If you think shit is fucked up now let the looney left have their way
.
The "New" Evansville Skatepark Project. The first $20,000.00 wasn't enough. The future convicts got bored and vandalized our City pool.
Do I miss them? No, they would however give me plenty to write about if they kept their Blogs up to date.

Name this Blog
Here it goes.......... Now that we have lost Slammer ( We miss you Man!) It's time to start a blog where "We the People of Evansville can make our voices heard" Most of the discussion here will be local and state politics and issues I believe affect us the taxpayers and my take on them. You will however find occasional bits of sports, humor, neighborhood happenings and Madonna Marketing.
Now I need your help. I am having trouble coming up with a fitting name. So I am having a Name this Blog contest. I know there are plenty of people out there who are much more creative than I. So please submit and submit often. I will then have the 3 people who will read this Blog vote. Majority rules.
There are some very interesting things going on in our Community. I can't wait to hear your thoughts.
